Steamboat vacation rentals and alternative for condo owners paying upwards of 40% fees

Planning to vacation in Steamboat soon? Our local management companies such as Steamboat Resorts and Resort Quest are top notch for service, but you may find as good or better deal using one of the internet companies.

Looking at the rental income statements for my Sellers using a local management company, its pretty typical to see only 50% of the nightly rental income ending up in the pockets of the owner. If the that owner lists with one of the following companies, then most of that rental income ends up in their pocket, allowing the flexibility to offer cheaper Steamboat condo and home rentals.

For most property owners trying to rent on their own, scheduling key service, cleaning, and maintenance is more of a burden then they want to deal with. For those who have a system they can offer some good deals on vacation rentals in Steamboat.

Here are a few examples:

The New York Times reports on how to surf for a vacation rental.

If you have questions about rental investment real estate in the Steamboat Springs real estate market, condos and homes for sale or would like a list of the local vacation rental services, I’m here to help.

Outdoor Magazine Blog Highlights Steamboat Springs

Aaron Gulley from Outdoor Magazine visited Steamboat Springs, self proclaimed Bike Town USA (mirroring its Ski Town USA winter monicker) during the week that brought the USA Pro Cycling Challenge here.

He says:

Bike Town USA is definitely a marketing initiative, but it’s refreshing to find a place with the soul and the cred to back up the claims. There are over 500 miles of trail in the vicinity of Steamboat, two boutique bike manufacturers in town (Moots and Eriksen) and a well-subscribed weekly road and mountain bike race series in summer.

Steamboat’s biggest news! Powder and One Steamboat Place Foreclosure

Ok… the good news first - Champagne Powder® snow is on order along with the usual turkey and trimmings! Steamboat will be serving up a full plate of fun with 5 lifts, approximately 926 acres and 66 trails, including much of its legendary tree-skiing terrain in Shadows and Closet. For just $30, Steamboat will dish out a lift ticket on opening day, Wednesday November 24th, and donate all proceeds to benefit the local youths in the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club.

We haven’t seen early season conditions like these since 1996/97 winter. A series of storms have dumped nearly 4-1/2 feet of snow this month and 6 feet of snow since October 23rd at Thunderhead, the resort’s mid-mountain location at 9,080 feet. Steamboat is currently reporting a remarkable 52-inch base at the summit, the largest ever seen for an opening day. And snow will continue to accumulate starting Sunday and lasting till the opening on Wednesday.

Meteorologists are calling for a La Niña weather cycle this winter and Steamboat often does very well during the stronger events. So far so good! Mike at SnowAlarm and I decided to hike to Hurricane this past week to send you a taste of what’s on tap for this winter - powder skiing!

Oh - did I mention that One Steamboat Place is in foreclosure? Lets keep with the good buzz and I’ll write about this debacle later. Or you can check out the news.

In search of the hog, huge rainbow trout lurk at Storm Mountain Ranch

3 hours of fishing and you’ll be ready to retire, until you land rainbow trout after trout on an old school fly rod and reel from the shores of a restored fish habitat at Storm Mountain Ranch, you haven’t lived the fisherman’s dream. Tommy Herzog shows us how its done.

This isn’t a hobby you can easily add to your bucket list however, only 14 privilaged owners are lucky enough to enjoy the amenities commonly shared at this working ranch and intimate luxury home development at the base or Rabbit Ears Pass south of Steamboat Springs, Colorado.

Colorado offers some of the best fresh water trout fishing in the world, check out our local fly fishing shops for more information.

Skiing Steamboat Springs to 10 million socks. How living in Steamboat Springs can lead to success.

If your family or friends are giving you grief for considering the idea of becoming a ski bum, you may want to point them to this story - who says being a Steamboat ski bum can’t pay off?

In 1994, two ski instructors opened the Smart Wool Company.

Smart Wool had another record-breaking year with revenues nearing the $100 million mark and sold more than 10 million pairs of socks in addition to its growing apparel line.

Steamboat Today

The original owners, Patty and Peter Duke no longer own Smart Wool, but they are positioning themselves to continue the success story with their newest Steamboat Springs-based sock company - Point 6

If that is not enough convincing that doing what you want to do in life can lead to success, see these other successful companies that have spun out of this small Colorado town while Biking, Hiking, and Kayaking. kayaking-steamboat-springs.jpg

Morning frost, bears and fall trees at Storm Mountain Ranch, summer is ending in Steamboat.

A banging sound outside my window this morning awoke me about 3 AM. Rules to follow in the fall - don’t leave your window open next to the trash in the kitchen or you may just bump into a friend looking more than a fresh cup of Joe.
storm-mountain-ranch-community6.jpg
The bears are looking for food, the thermometer is registering at 32 degrees and below, and the aspen trees are turning. It is fall 2010 in Steamboat.

Michelle, Nolan and I spent the past week as a guest of Storm Mountain Ranch. I can’t say there is a better way to wrap up summer, than staying home for a vacation, so to speak. I still worked all week, but it just didn’t feel like it. The hospitality, landscape and serenity of this majestic setting were beyond words.

We rowed a boat at sunset, caught 9 or so 2+ pound trout on fly rods, fired up the BBQ at night and sat by the beachfront fire. The days were warm enough to play in the sand and water, and cool nights provided for a beautiful sunrise with steam rising from the ponds. There were no lights around you at night, so the stars reminded me my days camping outside civilization. However, this was just 5 minutes to downtown Steamboat Springs! And Nolan - my 3 year old son, reminded me of that - “Dad lets go get dessert at the gas station” - our new nightly routine.
storm-mountain-ranch-community2.jpg

In a week we saw just a fraction of the 1,063 acres. I had heard this is like your own National Park and having visited many in my lifetime, I must agree. The rushing waters of Walton Creek, the towering Walton Creek Falls - also referred to as June Falls, the granite canyons, old growth aspen and spruce trees, elk and deer, and sounds of coyotes at night was just the beginning, I live nearby and can say in all honesty, you had to be there to truly appreciate the lifestyle these 12 owners enjoy.

Our sincere appreciation goes out to Mary and the staff of Storm Mountain Ranch for such a peaceful and enlightening week.
